Do you know what really Grinds my gears? When people play that game with you when they try to trick you. For examples:
They have these words written down and they ask you to Say this word-
MacDonalds
and this word-
MacHenry
and then they ask you to say-
MacHine.
Some people actually say Mac Hine, but most of us know it's machine. You get it? It's not that cool.
Here is another one: They ask you a question like what product are Cheese and Ice Cream and Yogurt all by products of?
You say- Milk.
They ask you another couple of questions that result in the same answer,
Milk.
So then they ask you what to Cows drink. And if your not quick on your feet you probably answer milk.
Here's what really bothers me, I am quick on my feet at least when I heard this and my immediate answer was milk. Granted they do drink water, but think for a minute people. What is a calf? It's a young cow. They drink milk, they are a cow, none the less, none the more. That's right, shut down! Think about it this way, there would be no such thing as milk if species didn't use milk to feed there young, for example young cows or calves. And that is what really Grinds my Gears. Back to you Tom.
So basically I haven't written any real posts in a while. Umm.. to lazy to do it, and spending my energy on school, getting there, coming back, homework, and hangin' with some people.
My week end sums up like this. Well actually we'll start on Thursday where I left off. On Thursday night I went to Campus Crusades for Christ. That was quite fun. On Friday I had the usual classes. In my math class, I found out I had to take a math placement test, because... I don't really know. Anyway, I already kinda knew that, because I found out when I was logged into the Web CT. However, I had been waiting to take it, because I wanted to take the practice test a couple of times before I failed it. This Monday morning... that's a different story, I'll get to that.
On Friday evening I got back from my last class and waited for Jess to call. Then I realized I should probably shower since I smelled from trekking all over campus on my skates. As I got out of the shower I could hear my phone, from down the hall in my room, and the message that she left. I raced to catch the call, but I missed it by a couple of seconds. Good news: she said on the message that she would call back. I waited some more and finally her mom called and said they weren't too far. They didn't spend a lot of time here but I don't blame them; not much to do and they had a long day. After they left I barely caught dinner and decided that I would either catch Navigators (another christian group) or go to a gathering/party that CRU had arranged. Instead, I went to Rock or The Rock or something like that. It was a christian group concentrated on a lot of music and a little of prayer, but pretty much the same lay out as CRU. I missed most of it because I was talking to people about stuff and life and stuff in life and stuff out of life. I got some grade A advice from a 4th year architect student too.
On Saturday, I did some errands (spent money) and then I went to hang out with Kevin. We played some video games, went to Dairy Queen to visit his bored roommate, who was working, then watched V for Vendetta. V is also for any word that starts with V.
On Sunday I went to church (hard to believe?, I did). After that I went shopping, went to Perkins and ate my free meal. (Sarah, I left a good tip in honor of you; it was easy because the meal was free, but it's too bad I didn't get a free meal at just Perkins or else I might have come to eat at your Perkins and tipped you.) After a wonderful lunch I ventured about searching for a laundry mat trying to find something cheap. I didn't even find a laundry mat. So I retreated to my dorm to mosey around and look one up on the internet. I found one, it was expensive, thus I did my laundry in the basement or our building. I didn't want to do it there though because I really didn't want to mess with their complecated system. It turned out okay, considering I still haven't had to pay for it, and I'm not sure that I will have to pay it. What I'm really not sure of is weather or not I found a way to cheat the system. Wouldn't that be great? I thought so.
Monday is quite the story: I woke up well into my first class, and I mis-remembered the next part of my schedule. I was thinking my Dsn class stars at 11:00, well it does but that's my 131 class, and that's on Tuesday and Thursday. The other one, the one I needed to be remembering, starts at 10:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. While I waited for that class I thought I would actually take that Placement Test I had been so ready to take all this time. To my amazement and delight, they changed Web CT around so that the test wasn't on there anymore. I talked to some people higher up and it turns out that I don't need that test, because I took a Math 142 last year at another (real) college. Let's recap for a moment though, I missed two classes and because I went to my second class when I was supposed to be at my third class I was late for that class too. I hate it. But I'll get over it.
Today is Tuesday, and this is my favorite day of the week. Things are going a lot better, but they are about to turn around if I don't get some things done, so good bye, end of post.
P.S. Tonight I am doing Bible Study for once, and tommorrow I don't know what I'm doing. Thursday I am going to the football season opener if I can get a ticket. Friday, I may go to NAV, or The Rock Again, or not, because Greg's coming down. Saturday I hope Jess isn't busy because I want to see what she's up to, and Sunday and Monday I think I am going home to get my bike and some other things I forgot. We'll see what happens though...
A fifty foot phone cord at Wal-Mart is exactly the same price as a twenty-five foot phone cord.

Well, upon request, I have decided to name my phones. Many of you may know that I have three phones... for no reason at all. Kelvin and I discussed some possible options and we ran into the idea of naming them well, pretty much dog names. This post is complete with directions on how it might sound if I told you in person myself. This ones really random.(slow southern accent)Let me tell you about the base phone, he's been a member of the family for the longest time. Why it seemed like just last week that I first brought him home. (no accent) Wait... it was last week. (back to accent) Anyway, I decided to call him 'old yeller' because he's kind like the top dog, you know, the one that the other two look up to. He's my old faithful, he takes care of all the important stuff for me. My trail's cove.(taunting)Then there's 'Duke', that's handset # 2, he's like hound. He's loyal and trustworthy, and he keeps an eye on all the other electronics on my desk. Those poor mischievous critters. He won't let them out of his sights. He's got my memorized phone numbers that he carries on him in case I decide that I want to spend 5 cents a minute to go huntin' for friends or locatin' them. How do you like that, Lastly there's 'Lassie'. Lassie is my problem solver, and for being handset # 3, she's very understandin' that I'm not 'liable to pick her first. But she's always willing to help, you know, she'll tell me anytime someones in the well. (no accent) I mean anytime someone is trying to reach me via telephone, in which case that person can tell me they are in the well. (back to accent) And those, folks, are the names I have given to my beloved phones*. Old yeller, Duke, Lassie and I are having the time of our lives. even the hidden messages have directions.(end of the commercial speed talker fashion) *Not actually given birth Certificates, and are subject to change after further review. (proudly presented) Brought to you by the YAYG Cooperation.
Random Post!
Can't you see?
And a link. I don't mean to intentionally offend any females, I just think it's funny, I'm laughing mostly at what the guys are doing, not at the women.
Got Milk
I should probably start updating the music of the moment now that I can. Coming soon: Scott gets around to it.
Does anybody read between the lines?
Guess what everybody, I checked out my Laptops battery number online and it is NOT on recall. I guess I got a good one, Whahoo! I am getting closer to my goal of switching my location residence here at college. If I keep this up I should be able to move in right after Labor day to the hall of my choice, which has a community of Pre-Architects like me. (smile with lots of teeth showing)
What else... what else...? Ummm...
Oh my wheels on my skates are shot. Good advice to people out there who use skates. You should not wait to switch the wheels like I did. You see, the wheels, being rubber, where out rather quickly on cement especially rough campus side walks. And because of the way you skate, by pushing side to side, the inside of the wheels develop an absence of rubber, and begin to form a sort of triangular profile. Well actually if you look at the whole wheel from the front or back and not the side, it looks like a trapezoid. To even it out you need to switch the wheels. In my case, I apparently waited too long. I used them after switching them this morning and I was thinking:
Well with only that little point of a spot for the wheel to rest on while I skate it will probably where out pretty fast and become evened out pretty fast.
I was wrong because, I checked to see how they were doing after I only skated 8 blocks, and chunks of the rubber wheel were missing like they had been torn off. It completely ruined the wheels and because of the fact that there wasn't much left of them, they were scuffing every time I leaned my skate slightly to the outside. Scuffing the casing that holds the wheels on. Yea...
Check this part out next post!
And... what else is new? I picked up a flyer from U.S. bank. What could it hurt to put some money in another well known National Bank? Well I am thinking about it, but it probably won't happen. I was only considering the convenience and possibilities.
Speaking of which, I bought a subscription to a magazine on the same baisis and I'm now pretty sure that was the stupidest impulse buy I've ever made. I got Car and Driver. Not that I won't enjoy it, just that I don't see the need to have a magazine. In all my years of living at home, not once did my family ever have a subscription to a magazine or even a newspaper. So I guess, not only do I not see the need, but I don't even see a good reason to want one. I was only thinking about it recently, like a daydream. Then some girl showed up trying to raise money to go visit Rome, and for some stupid reason, I bought into it and got a subscription. On second thought, my family did have one thing that we got in the mail... a FREE catalog from Dell, in which I was searching for my new computer. We don't get that anymore though, because... I have a computer! Hooray for my new computer. It's only one month old. That's about it.
Stupid apple computers. At least the ones in the design building are stupid. I tried to check my hot mail, but you know what, I think it's forbidden or impossible for an apple to visit a Microsoft associated web page. It wouldn't work no matter how many times I tried. Arr! Go cry to your moma apple...Then I thought, oh, I'll just check out facebook. Not an option. The ones in the design center have Internet explorer, which is my browser of choice actually. Facebook said something to the effect ofcomputer inventor and current designers."We detect you are using explorer on a Mac, unfortunately that is a really old program, you need to download one of these- Mozilla, FireFox etc." Because...Something like that, and it did say "really old" I didn't know that. Which means I couldn't have just added it myself, that's what it said. Honestly apple (who's name doesn't deserve to be capitalized), you think you're so hot, that you've got it all figured out, well you're not, and you don't have a clue! The only thing that I ever found good in apple was the drawing program, it's way better than the one built into Word. And I will give them credit for trying, when they made it possible to have Microsoft programs like Word on their computers. But that's it. you suck. And another thing, When I visit this page on those computers it completely throws out the format I have set up. There is supposed to be a side bar and a main body. Well the main body is all centered so it takes up the width of the page and my sidebar becomes a sidebar only it's where the footer goes. At first I thought, this is kind of cool, but I thought about it, and I don't like it. And a lot of it comes from the fact that I pretty much hate apple computers. They put shame to the name apple and have ruined it for the fruit. Real apples are tasty!
Some other things I forgot to mention... but wanted to.
I am learning that you have to check your email all the time, because it's the next best thing to a phone around here, and if you don't check for emails like three times a day, you probably missed something important already.
When I said I rearranged my room earlier, I decided it wasn't for me, so I really messed it up and it took me a long time, but everthing fell into place. Now I have everything where I want it and I don't have to have one power strip feeding off of another. I don't know why, but everytime I open up my blog, it tells me to "click if you want to run Active X controls" nevermind i fixed it just now while I was typing this. But now the player looks different. Anyway, the hassle with it before was that it did it everytime, it was annoying. I don't know what it does to your computer, but I am just glad it works on my computer.
Well as anyone knows this, the first day is rarely ever hard, because all you're doing is being told what the class is about, and how you'll be graded, and other stuff like that. Pretty easy. I still have one more class but it's not until 3:10, so I have some time. Sometimes...I guess I neglected to mention some things lately, actually, it's because I don't make time to post, and when I do post, I forget what I was going to say before. Well, I learned to juggle, sort of, when we saw the speaker... on Friday was it? And, yesterday I got some more supplies for my room. You see, right now I have one power strip coming out of another one, because the other one won't reach for my stuff, very unsafe! So I went out and bought another one that has a longer cord. I also bought a phone. It's way sweet! It has a "base unit" with an answering machine, where I can leave myself a message for reminders and it's cordless too. And it came with two other cordless phones that I can plug in anywhere else in the house, which is my dorm room for now. Kinda pointless to have three phones in my one room right? Well they're all plugged in and everything, so I'll be sure not to miss a call. there are too many thingsOh, and I was thinking about the cost of my dorm room. For the price I am paying I know for a fact that I could get a very decent apartment, for 10 months and pay just little more for utilities and stuff. That means one more month than I am getting, not having to share a bathroom with other people, getting more than just one room, and I could probably find one only half the distance from campus for about the same price. Plus, I haven't really found anyone to talk to on my floor. It seems that they tend to keep to themselves, so it's boring. to read in the lines,In other news, or stuff I don't usually forget to post, Saturday was the last day of Destination, because the only thing to do on Sunday was to pick up books together. Everybody in my group already got theirs, so we were done. On Saturday, we didn't have to do anything until 2:00. At 2:00 we went to see a speaker who spent is time as a retiree helping organize and feed hungry children in Africa, more specifically an area around a city that was founded or started because of the placement of a leprosy hospital. What happens is, in Africa, the hospitals aren't responsible for food or care of the patient other than their medical needs. It's up to the family to bring food and change bedding and other stuff for the patient. So naturally a city was sort of built around the area. They want to make the hospital capable to treat other illnesses. They are doing so much more than just that with the hospital though. The retiree happens to be a retired carpenter, so he has overseen the building of several new school buildings and houses for the teachers and doctors that are willing to help. They also, like I said, help to feed the hungry, and they are trying to boost the "economy" which practically doesn't really exist yet in most area's. They try to help the families by buying baskets that the women make and camisoles that they were taught to so. They also buy flutes from the people that they were taught how to make by a man in Ames. Every year they have people who sign up to volunteer their expertise in the medical world. And there is more, but I didn't get to do any of that stuff. Our group signed up to help package food to shipped over there. that you can't concentrate on I didn't get to do that either, I got to help bring already packed boxes of food down to the loading dock, and unpacked food from the semi up to the Great Hall where they were packing food. My expertise in driving pallet jacks from working at Fareway, came in handy. I was pretty proud of actually knowing what the heck I was doing with the jack. what is between the lines. Then, later that night, we got to see a comedian who was pretty famous. But then again, you probably wouldn't know his name if I did drop it, so I won't. After that, they had a video dance set up for us and some pizza, free I might add. I took some pizza and left, with the plan to come back in a little bit. I didn't go back, I was too tired.Life's been good to me so far,On Sunday, I was invited to Greg's celebration of his and his grandma's birthday parties at Old Chicago, good food. Kelvin and I hung out the rest of the day, before he had to go to work. I went to Target again, and found Wal-mart, along with a mall and yet another branch of my bank. That makes three that I know of. Where I come from there are only two. Good to know. I found out that the dining hall isn't open on Sunday's, but, the "restaurant" down stairs is. I ate there and stopped by Henry's afterward to hang out. That's actually all I did on Sunday, I thought I had a res. hall meeting; nope, it's tonight. and 'e is making it better all the time.Today, I had three classes this morning. I also rearranged my room today, but I'll probably end up changing it back... I also have another class, as previously stated, and also as previously stated I have a meeting tonight.
I don't know why the orientation program is called that. It's supposed to be like, hey welcome to college; this is the beginning of a great start. They make it seem like you've accomplished something by just getting here. Oh well.No interesting hidden words today.
Yesterday, I actually walked to campus, because I realized that I wouldn't have any place to put my skates as I participated in the activities of the day. Well, I set my alarm for the morning thinking I was going to skate, but when I realized my mistake, it was too late. Because... it made me late.
I may have been late, but I made up for it with my skills of speedy eating. Then, after breakfast, we went to a few presentations to teach us about the resources and the professors and about credit cards, loans, and the college budget. We ate lunch then we went to see a group of people who do skits. They did skits about college life, when the tough stuff happens, like discrimination and well... mostly that. They had interactive skits, so you could comment on them after they were done and express your opinion on the situation and what is wrong with what was happening in the skit. The actors were really good.
I thought I was done for the day so I went back to the dorm. Then, luckily, while I was making a point to check all my emails and web pages, and facebook, I stumbled on an email in my school email box. Yes folks, I have a grand total of six email accounts, three web pages and a facebook account to keep track of. Anyway, the team leader we had, totally spaced and forgot to tell us that there was a great big thing just for Destination Students. He didn't sent it to me until 4:30 and we went to at 6:30, then we toured campus and wasted a little time, until, the thing started.
The great big thing was cool; they had free stuff, and games to play. There was a "scavenger hunt" in which we went around one of the buildings finding different shops and spots to hang out, getting our cards punched. When we were done, we turned in our cards at the book store to qualify for a free ipod nano. I wouldn't mind one of those if it was free.
Then I went and pretty much spent the rest of the night playing bunko and winning free stuff. Bunko was put on by Campus crusades, so it was really fun. I won a free meal at Perkins in Ames, two free quarter pounders from B-bpos, a free slice of pizza from Dinners and Desserts (don't ask me), a free drink from the Cafe Diem Coffee House, and a bunch of other stuff I gave away to other people who weren’t winning anything.
For those of you who know how to play bunko, I didn't until last night, but we switched teams at about every table and two of the teams I was on scored forty five points which was a lot because the other team only had about twenty when we finished the game. I think it was because I got bunko and baby bunko in the same game and my partner got a baby bunko too. That helped. Well I've got to go take care of my tuition bill, that's the end of this exciting post.
I forgot to mention the skate park here. It's a lot better than Ankeney's but it's cement and I don't much like it. Then agian it may help me become a more technical skater, since there is a lot of low stuff to skate on... like rails to grind on, and more rails to grind on, and a couple of ramps and platforms.
I know I used this, but, the day is a wastin' and I could be skatin'.
The thing I don't like is that it's made out of cement, the curves in the quarter pipes are different and it takes some getting used to, so I am limited at the moment, but I'll get better, I hope.
It's here, it's here, it's finally here. I have finally moved out and I am at college. I am having a lot of fun already. And I finally understand first hand why they call it the freshmen fifteen. I am going to eat a lot with the all you can eat setup at the dining center. But I don't think I am going to gain much more than a couple pounds. I plan to be lifting, skating, which is a good cardiovascular workout, and maybe I'll find some place to do yoga or pilates. Sorry everybody, Now that I have the Internet I can post more often. And I can keep up with all my email accounts and stuff, I'm excited. I can't think of any cleverSo far, I've bummed around, I watched TV, messed with my music, naming unnamed songs, and glanced at some blogs that I haven't really read in a while. But that's not all I got done, I got my parking permit taken care of, found out where I can eat, where I can do laundry, and where I can skate. I also found out that I haven't paid for my books even though I gave them a credit card number on the Internet. It doesn't make sense, why would they need it at all if they aren't going to do anything with it?secret messages forDo you want to know what else doesn't make sense, I did find the laundry room, it's in the basement, but I couldn't figure out where to put my money. Then, after searching high and low, I found it, in the corner of the room, there is a swipe machine. I don't know if I am supposed to use my debit card or my ISU card. If I use my ISU card I think it will be charged to my University bill, kind of like a credit card, but I'm not sure how that works either. Goodness gracious, can't I just use quarters like everyone else, honestly. I am going to have to ask somebody about this. this post.Oh, and I found out where I can eat, but it happens to be on campus, unlike me, uugh. According to the girl at the desk downstairs, who kindly told me where the laundry room was, it's about a fifteen minute walk to campus. I personally didn't want to deal with the bussing system and I didn't want to walk, so I skated. Much faster than walking. Anyway, I noticed on my way back to my dorm that the building litterally right next to mine was a dining hall, but wait, there's more... It's not open anymore, I don't know if it's just a vacant building now or if they use it for storage or offices. The important thing is, sadly, that they do not serve food anymore. But that could be a good thing, because now I have to burn off some of those calories that I packed in on the way back to my dorm. Next time, next time. That's all folks. Maybe I'll have more to say later today.
I get to post again. Hooray! I'm over at Pat's house, hangin' out, wondering if Jimmy is going to show up. I'm going to sign up for a myspace today, we'll see how it goes. I Strive to be faster at my work,I have 11 days to get my forms in to the student fitness center and to have a physical, let alone schedule an appointment for a physical. I'me not sure I'm gonna make it but, I think I can. I pride myself on quality.Quote of the day- "V is for... anything that starts with V", not just for Vendetta.-Greg
I decided to call it Nifty Title because I could not decide on another nifty title. Could you? I could not find a nifty title.I got my laptop and I like it a lot. It came with a small flash drive and a mouse with a retractable cord. It's got a 17 inch screen. I can burn and read CD's and DVD's. This is all great stuff but I'm sure a lot of people are used having a DVD burner. Anyway, I still need a carring case for it. I already have like 400 and some songs on it and I've had it for a little more than a week. The good thing though is that it doesn't take up my memory, because... I have an external hard drive. Hooray! Not here,I think I am going to quit my summer job on Friday the 11th since I move in for college on Tuesday the 15th. Oh, I just realized that I get to move in on my favorite day of the week. I mean I knew that it was going to be on Tuesday, I never made the coorellation before. Yeah.not there.Speaking of jobs, I applied for a job with the food services in college, but after looking at the schedule they had given me, which had been tacked on to my school schedule, I realized that I wouldn't have a lot of extra time, not even for homework. Plus this is going to be my first year at a "real" college, so they say, and I want to make sure I keep up my grades, so I decided I do not want the job. I will be jobless, only this time for more than just a couple of weeks. Not a nifty title anywhere.I still haven't had time to read Jon and Joe's blog yet, I will sometime as long as they don't delete it anything. I bet they're having fun. Blasted titles! The end of my summer vacation is near. I had a good one, I hope you did too.
