so i didn't make a post during spring break even though i said i would. There's really nothing interesting going on in my life right now, but i did want to share a couple of Subway stories.
I don't remember if I already mentioned this but I got rapped on. You know how people post videos of themselves rapping their orders to the drive through clerk at Burger King and McDonald's. Well, it happened to me which takes guts because we don't have a drive through and they had to actually do it to my face. Lucky for them I was cool with it and there weren't any other customers trying to get a sandwich. The thing is, rap is pretty fast and it's kind of like a mumbling sound when you don't know the lyrics and they start going too fast. So I didn't get his order. Plus as far as I could tell, he didn't really order correctly. I think it was prolly just because he was trying to rhyme, but that's no excuse, he had plenty of time to think of a rhyme. And he should know the proper procedure, if a sandwich he wished to procure. Meanwhile, I wasn't witty enough to come up with this on the spot but I thought about it after they left and the following is what I came up with. This will be my new come back rhyme in the unlikely event it ever happens again:
Whoa. Stop! All I heard was "mumble",
I stood here and watched you stumble
over your words. let me take off my gloves it's time to rumble.
Now, can I get your order
or do you want your MOM to do it for ya?
There's more but the rest is kinda boring, and this will suffice if I can't remember the rest when the time comes, know what I mean? Also, I've been searching YouTube for the video they made, but without success.
One Saturday a few weekends ago I was scheduled to have the night off, but in that week three different people asked me if I could cover for them. I told the first two no, but the third one made me a proposition which involved me having both Friday and Saturday of the next weekend off. This I took, but she and I forgot to tell the manager, which became a problem later. Come Saturday night and I'm getting ready to go to work and I get a call from the manager who wants me to fill in for the other girl that night. Usually, if the manager called in a situation like this and he sounded so desperate, I'd have said yes, but since I was already covering for the first girl, I said no. He sounded pretty disappointed until I told him why, and then he really got disappointed, wishing we had told him before. I later find out that he had already been covering for the third person that had asked me to cover for him earlier that week. So it seemed as though I was destined to work, since all three people who were scheduled to work were the ones who didn't work that night. So my manager is doing a double shift at this pt. but that's not all, he booked 2 DJing gigs before he knew he'd be working at Subway. Yea that's his other job and he's kind of the manager of his own business there. He also was looking into becoming the manager at a bar he DJ's at. He's a pretty sweet boss, and I think he's only 24. So I have to hold down the fort and fend off the drunks while he's down the block getting those same drunks all worked up. Luckily it wasn't that bad.
Anyway I haven't gotten to the good part yet, the first interesting thing that happened, happened only 15 minutes after I got there. A guy and his friend come in. The first one is preoccupied (P.O.) and the other one is cool calm & collect (CC&C). P.O. has never been to subway so CC&C has to help him order and basically makes most of the descisions. P.O. keeps running over to the other side of the room to answer calls and he even runs out the door at one point to talk to a friend while his sandwich is being made. Its just a little frustrating because I can make a sandwich in 2 minutes or less even if you get it toasted and with all the veggies, unless the customer takes their sweet time ordering that is. Anyway, CC&C ends up paying for P.O.'s sandwich, but as he hands me his card he tells me "I need to sit down." Keep in mind that CC&C doesn't appear to have been drinking, but suddenly he doesn't look so good. I think to myself as I take his card 'yea man, you can sit down in a minute' but about 2 seconds after I take his card he just collapses, gracefully I might add, but he is on the floor none the less. As he was going down he grabbed the chip rack display for stability, but that just ripped off the wall with his full weight coming down behind it. I have never been in this situation or any similar. I froze while I considered for a second that he may have passed out from alcohol until he started to seize up a little bit. That was a kind of scary. I was still frozen in my place. Finally, a man talking to my manager barked out for someone to call 911. I proceeded to make my first 911 call. It was pretty simple. I just told them that I was at the subway on Welch, gave the specific number address, told them that someone passed out who didn't appear to have been drinking and that he had seized up. I should mention that he came to consciousness while I was still on the phone with the 911 operator, which I also told her about. She sent firemen from the firehouse halfway up the block, until the paramedics could get there. We later found out that he had a panic attack and that he had experience one earlier that week but without seizing up.
A couple of hours later my manager returns from his DJing gigs a little tipsy and begins to DJ for "club subway" lol. Then the second interesting thing happens, a fight had broken out at the bar across the street and the fighters ran down the alley next to our Subway when the cops came to break it up. In order to catch up to him, the cop runs through our subway and out the back door. It was like a scene from the TV show COPS. My manager, in a tip toeing manner, creeps out the back door after the cop to go scope it. He returns and reports that the cops were coming from all directions and describes what sounds like some sort of sting operation or the scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when they come to rescue Mr. Frank Shirley.
Also, this is probably because I haven't worked the drunk night shift in a while but no girls have hit on me or at least complimented my hair for a few weeks now, haha. We'll see what happens tonight.
